🕋 Digging Into the Umrah Industry: A Market Research for the Community

The Umrah industry is shifting fast, but entrepreneurs and builders still lack the data needed to make informed decisions. I’m launching a community-driven market research project to analyse how Umrah companies operate — from pricing to tech adoption — and I’ll be sharing everything publicly. This post explains why I’m doing it, how it’ll work, and how you can do the same kind of research for your own niche. Let’s make valuable insights accessible for the entire Ummah.

The Umrah industry is evolving — fast. From traditional travel agencies to fully digital booking platforms, it’s clear that change is happening. But for entrepreneurs, startups, or anyone looking to build tools for this space, there’s one big issue:

There’s barely any structured data out there.

That’s why I’ve decided to do something about it — I’m starting a market research project focused entirely on Umrah companies, and I’ll be sharing the insights publicly so others can benefit too. Whether you’re a developer, founder, designer, or just curious — this data might help you make smarter decisions.

🧠 Why I’m Doing This

The goal is simple:
To make high-quality, real-world information available to people who want to build or invest in the Umrah space.

Right now, most decisions are being made with guesswork. I want to change that — and help others explore this market with real context, trends, and user behaviour in mind.

📋 What I’ll Be Researching

Here’s what I’ll be looking into:

  • What services Umrah companies actually offer (group vs private packages, VIP vs budget, etc.)
  • How easy it is to book online (or if you even can)
  • Pricing structures, offers, and upsells
  • How they support customers (WhatsApp? 24/7 chat? No response at all?)
  • Reviews, complaints, and red flags from past travellers
  • How tech-savvy they are (do they use apps, CRMs, automated systems?)

🔍 How I’m Doing It

I’m keeping this simple, honest, and practical. Here’s my approach:

1. Secret Shopper Mode

I’ll visit company websites, ask for quotes, try to book packages — just like a real customer. This helps reveal friction points, user experience gaps, and pricing inconsistencies.

2. Review Hunting

Google, Trustpilot, YouTube vlogs, TikTok — anywhere people share their stories, I’m listening. Reviews can tell you a lot about what’s working and what’s not.

3. Interviews & Surveys

I’ll try to talk to real agents and founders (if they’re open to it). The more perspectives, the better.

4. Spreadsheet Everything

All my notes will go into a central doc — with columns for services, booking process, UX notes, prices, and more. This makes it easy to compare companies side-by-side.

📦 What You’ll Get

Once I wrap up the first phase, I’ll publish:

  • A simple, easy-to-read report with key takeaways
  • A downloadable spreadsheet with all the data
  • Visuals and charts to help you digest the info
  • Blog updates along the way, sharing insights as I go

And yes — it’ll be free. No paywalls, no catches. This is about empowering the community.

💡 Want to Do Similar Research? Here Are Some Tips:

If you’re curious to explore your own niche or do something similar, here’s what’s worked for me so far:

Start with 10–15 companies — That’s enough to see patterns without getting overwhelmed.

Use incognito mode when browsing — This gives you a cleaner experience (no cookies or retargeting interfering).

Keep a tracker — I’m using Google Sheets with columns like “Website UX”, “Packages Offered”, “Response Time”, and “Trustpilot Score”.

Document everything — Screenshots, emails, phone recordings (with permission!), booking flows. You’ll thank yourself later.

Look at competitors in other countries — You might spot trends that haven’t arrived in your market yet.

🤝 How You Can Help

If you’re in the Umrah space — or know someone who is — I’d love your input.

  • Got questions you’d like answered in the research? Send them my way.
  • Know a company I should include? DM me.
  • Have data or experience to share? Let’s chat.

This isn’t just “my” project — it’s for all of us trying to build something better for the Ummah, with purpose and data guiding the way.

Stay tuned for updates, and feel free to follow along or reach out if you want to collaborate or learn more.

Bismillah. Let’s do this the right way. 🙌
